Tomato biryani south Indian recipe

Ingredients 

Ingredients : 

Onions  - 1 finely chopped
Tomatoes - ripe - 3 -4 
Ginger garlic paste about 2 tsps
Mint leaves - 20
Green chillies - whole - 3




spices :
Cloves -2
Cinnamon - 2 
Cardamom - 2
Flennel seeds - 1 small tsp
Saute 
pepper corns - 2

Coconut milk - 1 small cup

Yogurt - 5 tsp

Masala powders :
Chilli powder - 1tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Curry powder - 1 tsp

Rice 
Basmathi rice or any long grain rice - 2 cups ( presoak them before cooking for about 20 minutes and drain the water completely) 

Oils :
Tomato biryani
Extra virgin coconut oil - 4 tsp
Ghee - 2 tsp

Salt to taste 

Preparation: 

1) In a medium sauce pan - Add the oils  let the ghee and coconut oil melt
2. Add the spices to the oils - let the spices flavor the oil
3. Now add the onions to the pan saute them until golden brown
4. Wait until the onions let the water out now add the salt only for the onions.
5.Add the green chillies mint leaves and the tomatoes to the onions.
6. Let the tomatoes cook well now add the ginger and garlic to the tomatoes let them cook well until the oil separates from the tomatoes.
7. Now add the masala powders to the dish , let them cook completely.
8. Now add the yogurt to the masala - after they are completely cooked.
9. Add two cups of liquid for one cup of basmati rice - If you are adding one cup of coconut milk please reduce one cup of water the dish.
10. Let the liquids get to a boil. Now add the basmathi rice , reduce the flame completely - in a medium low flame let the rice cook in a covered dish for about - 20 - 25 minutes. Keep stirring the rice in whole circles making sure that you dont break the rice.
11. When the dish is complete you can serve them with yogurt or raita .

Serves - 3 people.

alternatives :

Adding some garam masala gives great flavor
Adding more chilli powder will make this dish more hotter.
